Introduction

See below new instructions to make a solar dehydrator. People have always preserved food in different forms: smoked, salted, lacto-fermented, canned, dried, etc. Solar dehydrating is an easy and highly effective process for preserving food and aromatic plants. It is a gentle dehydrating process that follows the rhythm of the sun. Dehydration makes it possible to preserve surplus harvest across all seasons. By rehydrating the food, you can enjoy products all year round that have retained their taste and nutritional qualities. This collapsible dehydrator is perfect for nomadic lifestyles. There are various models of solar dehydrators, but the concept is always the same: fresh air enters a thermal store where it is heated (greenhouse effect) between a pane of glass and a black mount. The heated air enters the insulated dehydrating compartment and passes through all the drying racks before being extracted by a ventilation system. For maximum dehydration, the temperature should be between 35°C and 45°C and the air in the drying chamber should be dry: as something dries, it releases humidity, hence the importance of ventilation to ensure a dry dehydration compartment. Poor ventilation will impair dehydration, and temperatures that are too high will destroy the taste and nutritional value of the dried food.
